                     Paintings from the Akbar Nama : A Historical Chronicle 

 

                                               

 

 Cultural historian and art critic, Dr. Geeti Sen, was in Dublin, courtesy the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, to deliver  a talk on “Paintings from the Akbar Nama : A Historical Chronicle ” at the  National Museum of Ireland on 13th September 2005.

 

 

                                               The Murals of India

 

A lecture on “The Murals of India ” by eminent photographer and film maker,  Benoy Behl, was organized at the Chester Beatty Library (and the NUI, Galway) on 8th November 2004 . Mr.Behl presented photographs on the Ajanta cave paintings and murals based on the Jatakas (tales of  Buddha’s life).  Also, murals from Ellora, Brihadisvara Temple in Tamil Nadu, Viranchinarayan Temple in Orisa, Shivdwala Temple in Himachal Pradesh and monasteries of Ladakh.  The visit was sponsored by the   Indian Council of Cultural Relations.                                            

 

 

                                                Kalighat Paintings

 

Eminent art historian (and former Director of the National Museum of India), Dr. Jyotindra. Jain, presented a talk- cum-slide show on the  “ Kalighat Paintings -- ../images from a Changing World ”  at the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin on 30th June 2005.

 

 

                                     Colonial Use of Science  in India

 

The Embassy organised for the distinguished science historian and social scientist, Dr. Rajesh Kochar (formerly Director of the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies, New Delhi), to visit Ireland and deliver a talk on the "Colonial Use of Science  in India" at the Royal Dublin Society on  April 19th, 2006.
