Machine Readable Passports(MRPs) Introduced:

Government of India have decided to issue Machine Readable Passports(MRPs) with immediate effect. All passports issued by the Embassy henceforth would thus be MRPs.

Application for issue of Machine Readable Passports(MRPs) can be made on line at https://passport.gov.in/nri/ Please follow the instructions step by step to fill in the application form and save it. Then print the filled in application with the file number (on the screen) for submission of the hard copy to the Embassy, alongwith the required enclosures and fees (as per information available on our website www.indianembassy.ie under the link for passport related services). Before doing so, please affix one 4cm x 4cm photograph taken against a light background, append your signatures at the designated boxes and fill in all blank columns in the printed application by hand [S. Nos. 7, 9 and 11 to 28].

The completed hard copy of the application form with all enclosures etc. can be submitted to the Embassy in person or by post. Applications (and Passports) sent by post should be sent by registered mail (with an indication on the envelope outside if it contains a Passport inside), along with two self-addressed envelopes stamped for registered post.Kindly note that postal despatch would be at the applicant’s risk, of loss/damage in transit.)

There will be no change in the time taken for processing (and delivery)of Passport applications viz. four to six weeks from the date of receipt of the complete (hard copy of the) application in the Embassy. The Embassy will do its best to provide the new MRPs within the stipulated timeframe stated on the website, including time taken for courier dispatch of MRPs from our Headquarters ( New Delhi) to the Embassy.

Emergencies will be dealt with separately, on a case by case basis, as appropriate.

Those who do not wish to apply online can also apply to the Embassy on hard copies as earlier but, in the interest of speedy disposal and avoidance of mistakes, it will be advisable for the applicants to utilize the online facility.

Recall Of Indian Passports

Government of India have decided to recall Jumbo Passport booklets (60 pages booklets) bearing series Z-000001 to Z-073000 with immediate effect due to some administrative and technical problems.

This Mission has issued Jumbo passports bearing Nos. between Z-010811 to Z 011103 out of this series. The holders of these passports are requested to submit their passports back to the Embassy with a Passport Renewal application, three photographs of size 4x4 cms. with light background showing frontal view of the face and photocopy of first and last page of the passport. The application should be preferably made on-line at https://passport.gov.in/nri/ to avoid possible mistakes and then the hard copy submitted, with enclosures requested above, at the Embassy either personally or by post. The new passport will be issued on Gratis basis (without any fees) within 40 days; in the interim period, the existing passport can be retained by the holder.

It may please be noted that in a short while, revocation circulars will be issued in respect of the above passports and holders will face difficulties at immigration counters around the world. To avoid these potential problems, holders of the above-mentioned passports are requested to approach this Embassy either in person or by e-mail at indcons@eircom.net at an early date to set in motion the procedures for issue of a fresh substitute passport.

The Maintenance And Welfare Of Parents And Senior Citizens Act 2007 Enacted

Government of India have recently enacted the “Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. This Act is applicable to Non Resident Indians (NRIs) also.

One of the primary objectives of the Act is to set up Maintenance Tribunals to consider the applications made by the parents who are unable to support themselves out of their own earnings for claiming maintenance from their children who may be living in India or abroad. The Tribunals, while considering such applications could summon the children against whom the claim has been made. A copy of the Gazette Notification can be perused here .
